B in the Holiday Spirit!

It’s my absolute favorite time of the year! The smell of Christmas trees and cinnamon, drinking delicious hot chocolate, singing along with Christmas carols, snuggling up under a warm blanket while watching the classics like: Elf, Home Alone, the Grinch and A Charlie Brown Christmas. Although the season is in full swing, it’s hard to truly feel like it’s Christmas when you live in a city that never gets any snow. Even though I’ve spent my whole life here, I can’t help the part of me that dreams of waking up to a white Christmas morning in a cozy cottage somewhere in the woods. I mean, come on! Phoenix is still getting 80 degree weather! It’s a bit ridiculous if you ask me.

Anyways! Here are some pictures from my family’s Christmas session, taken by me, on one of those 80 degree days. (Don’t be fooled by the scarves and boots! Definitely broke a sweat running back and forth after every shot. Let’s just say a shutter release is now on my Christmas list! ;)

Happy Holidays everyone!

PS. Stay tuned for some creative and cute DIY gifts I’m making for friends! ;)

Jeff + Leanne’s Holiday Photos

The first christmas photo session of the season, and It’s bringing in the holidays with a bang! Jeff and Leanne are spending this years festivities as newlyweds and were looking for some family photos to share with loved ones. But it wouldn’t be family without the four-legged furball! Phoenix, the 4 year old cockerspaniel, joined us for some fun in the park, a couple butt shots and luckily a few slobbery smiles. It was fun watching him enjoy the surroundings as I snapped away. Thanks for the laughs guys! I had a great time shooting with you.

Golden October Trees

It’s been a while since I graduated from Northern Arizona University and moved back to my hometown of Phoenix. But every time fall rolls around there’s no doubt the weather in Flagstaff beats out over the Phoenix heat. But the one thing on my mind every October are the aspens. Tall, beautiful, golden aspens. It’s what truly makes fall, fall for me. I’ve missed the change of the season twice now and I was not about to miss it again. I needed it. My plan was to take a day for myself and take the 2 hour drive up north for a solo photographic adventure. The boyfriend surprised me with the news that he had the day off and joined me! It turned out to be a great day! We did a lot of things we used to do in college together. Ate lunch at our favorite pita joint, walked around downtown and shopped at my favorite local shop The Basement Marketplace. If you’re ever in the area, check it out. It’s awesome! And not to mention it’s actually in the basement.

After walking around downtown we realized why it was so hard for us to find parking! The Octoberfest was taking place at Wheeler park right near downtown so we took a stroll over and decided on a short detour before we head up the mountain  for some photos.

I won’t lie to you. I’m not much of a beer fan but the pear cider I got went down like juice! Dangerous.

On our way back, we passed a pumpkin patch with the most perfect pumpkins we’ve ever seen! All of them perfect! Leave it to flag to produce the best.

Lockett Meadow! Pretty busy place this weekend! And almost everyone had a DSLR. Photography class maybe? Or perhaps they’re all like me and took a little road trip to see the aspens. ;)

After all of our adventures we took another trip down memory lane and had dinner at our most treasured spot in Flagstaff, Taverna Greek Grill, where we met and worked together through college. We love and miss this place so much. We talked about how Taverna was a second home to us in college and had so many great memories and great friendships with all of our coworkers and managers. If you have the opportunity to visit this restaurant you won’t regret it! It’s a fun and lively atmosphere with amazing food, greek dancing, plate breaking and fire breathing! So good to see some friendly faces here.

If you remember my post about the Coconino County Fair you’ll remember our stop at the best coffee shop in Flagstaff, Macy’s, for some delicious hot cocoa. We decided to stop here and grab a cup before heading back down to Phoenix for the night. Great decision on my part. ;)

I know now how much I took for granted while living in this beautiful little city. I miss the weather, fresh air, the events downtown, outdoor trails, local shops, beautiful wall murals, bonfires with friends… and the golden trees. A trip up North was just what I needed to get into the spirit of Fall without having all of these things within reach.

Bring on the Seasons! DIY Fall Wreath

It’s 80 degrees in September in Phoenix, Az. You know what this means, right? ITS FALL! Or so us Phoenicians like to think. It’s been a little rainy over the past week which apparently gives everyone permission to break out the Ugg boots and sweaters. But don’t think badly of us. 80′s in September is a miracle and we’re all just celebrating the break from the triple digits. Go ahead and ask any Phoenix local when it starts to cool down around here and they’ll tell you… “Halloween night”. It’s the truth! But Mother Nature decided to bring about cooler weather more than a month in advanced this year and I’m not complaining. In fact, I too, broke out my favorite jacket and decided to have a little Fall Deco Craft Night at my place with a friend. There was definitely baking involved and maybe even a little cookie dough eating while Robin watched a movie and I made a wreath!

Fall Wreath

It was cheap, fun and one of the easiest things to make. I already have plans to make one for the holiday season that’s right around the corner. (Isn’t it crazy how fast it creeped up on us??)

I got all of my materials from Michaels and used a 40% off coupon from their app on my iPhone.

1 Medium Round Wicker Wreath – $5.99

1 Door Hook – $2.99

1 Strand of Fall Leaves from the floral section – $6.99 (I got this on sale for about $4)

A Glue Gun & Glue Sticks

*Add anything else you’d like!

Fall Wreath

As for the instructions I think it’s fairly simple and self-explanatory. Just cut off some leaves from the vine and start gluing til your hearts content. When your done, take the door hook and hang it on! That’s it! I was surprised mine fit so well considering our condo number and peephole.

Let me know how yours turned out!

A Rainy Day at the Fair.

My lovely Flagstaff, AZ. How I’ve missed you so. Your breezy mountain air, smell of pine, and even your ridiculously random thunderstorms that hit everywhere in the city except the Coconino County Fairgrounds. It was much appreciated even though we decided, for our own safety, not to go on any rides for fear of being electrocuted. But even so, it was a fantastic day with great friends(minus a few) and fresh air.

It was our mission to get a picture together since at every outing we seem to be so focused on getting everyone else’s picture that we forget eachother!

In the end we decided to celebrate a successful fair day with a cup of Macy’s hot cocoa. For any natives to Flagstaff, you know this is the best joint for coffee in the city. And is now officially my favorite spot for hot cocoa.

What a great way to spend Labor Day weekend. A nice treat to be away from the city heat. And it also helped me realize how much I miss the feel of the trees around me. Something very lacking down here in the valley. Anyone know of a great place to live in Colorado? I’ve had my eye on that beautiful state for a while now, and I think it’s time for some change.

How did you spend your 3 day weekend?

PS. Is it fall yet?!

Paige’s Portrait Shoot

Back in the game! This is my first official shoot with my new camera and it just so happens to be with the beautiful Paige, one of the most photogenic people I know, so it’s easy to say this was the best photo shoot ever! The weather was beautiful, the location was fun and I got to enjoy a night with my old buddy from high school. Such a great night! Hope you enjoy the shots! Let me know what you think!

Hello Scrabble Magnets!

Scrabble Magnets

So it’s been a while since I’ve had the time and energy to do a fun craft, but with the excitement of moving into a new home next month I couldn’t help myself! Something I’ve been itching to do for quite some time now are Scrabble Magnets!! Easiest craft I’ve ever done and super cheap! Cost me a total of $13 and took about 10 minutes to make… Who doesn’t like easy and cheap?! Not to mention it makes a great little gift for a friend. And the best part is – there’s no gluing involved!!

[SUPPLIES ]

100 Scrabble Tiles (Amazon) – $9.99

1 Roll of Craft Magnet (Hobby Lobby) – $2.99 (Don’t forget your coupon!!)

A pair of scissors

Before we begin… be warned that when you order these scrabble letters you might not get all of the letters. People talk about this in the reviews and I was a little nervous myself to see what letters actually do come. I mean, 100 tiles SHOULD have every letter in the alphabet, right? Well, fortunately mine had at least one of every letter (even 2 blank pieces), and plenty of multiples of the rest. But if you find that there is a letter or two missing from your count, don’t sweat it. Thinking positively, it adds a bit of challenge to your game!

Scrabble Magnets Supplies

Cut the magnet strip into small square pieces. I only ended up using half of this roll for all 100 pieces so you’ll have plenty of magnet left to make these for a friend!

Scrabble Magnet pieces

Peel back the adhesive strip and stick it to the scrabble letter. Press firmly!

Scrabble Magnets

And that’s all there is to it! Now you’re ready for some sweet scrabble wars, or maybe just a friendly “hello”. :)

Hello Scrabble Magnets

I can’t wait to use these little conversations in our home next month! Can August be here already? So close, yet so far…

Until next time!
